Crippled Bullfrog

bullfrogI found a large bullfrog sitting on the edge of my pond last week. His right leg was injured quite severely near the joint mid-way down. I was afraid he was sitting prey for any passing creature, and that I would probably not see him again. To my surprise, he worked his way onto a ledge in the pond, just out of sight. I occasionally see him floating in the water, clinging to a water hyacinth like a life-preserver. What I am wondering is if he does not die from infection from his wound, does he has a chance of survival with one good leg? What does a frog do if it can’t hop? I am also wondering what he’s eating, how he’s managing to feed himself. Is there anything I could be doing for him? It’s been a week. A hearty little amphibian!
